The respondents sued in 1987 for specific performance of a 16.08.1984 agreement to sell 4 acres at Rs.12,000 per acre, on which Rs.27,300 earnest money was said to have been paid, the balance being payable within two years, allegedly extended to 19.06.1987 by an endorsement. The appellant/defendant did not dispute his mark on the document but asserted that blank papers had been got signed from him in connection with a loan taken from the plaintiffs' father, and produced a receipt dated 27.05.1987 (Exhibit D1) for Rs.27,875 whose execution the father (PW4) admitted, though claiming he had received only Rs.875.…
