The petitioner was at one time the Ruler of an erstwhile princely State which ceded to the Dominion Government in 1948. Jagirdar, who was the owner of a half share in a Jagir of villages contained in that princely State, became entitled to compensation for the trees standing thereon under the provisions of the Bombay Merged Territories and Areas (Jagirs Abolition)
